Installation Notes for Alcohol Lines
Oval gear meters need clean liquid. Install a 100 mesh Y strainer upstream. In distillation, copper packing particles or activated carbon fines can stop the gears. We have seen rotor damage from debris that passed through a coarse strainer. Use a strainer with mesh size smaller than the gear clearance.
Install the meter with a straight run of 5 pipe diameters upstream and 3 pipe diameters downstream. Oval gear meters are less sensitive to flow profile than turbine meters.
