## Understanding Heavy Fuel Oil Flow Measurement at 5 m³/h
Heavy fuel oil (HFO) has high viscosity. At room temperature, it can be 1,000 to 50,000 cP. This makes many flow meter types unusable. Most turbine meters or vortex meters cannot start spinning or generating stable signals. We have seen this on customer sites many times. A power plant in Indonesia tried using an electromagnetic flow meter on HFO. The meter could not work because HFO is not conductive enough. It had electrical conductivity below 5 µS/cm.
